The Legislative Arm of the Warri South Local Government Council has formally notified the Chairman, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, of its unanimous approval to rename Airport Road, Warri, as Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori Way.
In a letter dated 10 December 2025 and signed by the Clerk, Comr. Affor Godfrey Maku, the House stated that the resolution was reached during its plenary session held on Tuesday, 9 December.
The communication read in part:
“With reference to the letter dated 22 October 2025 on the above subject matter, I am directed to inform you that at the plenary of 9th December 2025, the House unanimously resolved that Airport Road should be renamed as Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori Way in recognition of the Executive Governor’s outstanding contributions to infrastructural and socio-economic development in Warri South and Delta State at large.”
It will be recalled that the Warri South Council Chairman had on Monday, 20 October, disclosed that the Executive Council of the LGA had aligned with its Uvwie counterpart in approving the renaming of the popular Airport Road to honour Governor Oborevwori.
Comr. Agbateyiniro made the disclosure during a breakout session of the Warri South Executive Council, attended by the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Area, Chief Anthony Ofoni.
He explained:
“The essence is to immortalise our leader for distinguishing himself. He has criss-crossed the length and breadth of Delta State with unprecedented projects, hence we are left with no choice but to honour him.
“This project (renaming of Airport Road, Warri) was initiated by him (Chief Ofoni).
What is left is to erect the relevant signboards. As you are erecting yours at the Uvwie end, we will erect ours in the Warri South axis.”
In his remarks, Uvwie LGA Chairman, Chief Ofoni, praised the collaboration between both councils.
“When my brother, the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi, called me about the Airport Road, I was very happy, because without his effort, we could not have achieved it. I believe God’s hand is on it.
“I want to commend the Warri South Council Chairman for his commitment. It is teamwork, and our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will be very happy to see us working together.”
